Auction politics an insult to voters

AT last the voice of reason by way of your editorial headlined ‘Be wary of auction politics’ (Irish Examiner, February 19). This ploy is an insult to the electorate.

Auction politics an insult to voters

How stupid do the PDs think we are? I’m disgusted the Labour party sought to promise tax cuts in the first place and now the PDs raise the stakes, promising a further 1% in tax cuts on top of the 2% promised by Labour.

In the language of my teenage children, ‘get real’. Our tax rates are among the lowest in Europe, if not the world. I presume I speak for most when I say all we want is for our taxes to be used wisely.

Most Nordic countries pay 30% tax on their income, but have excellent public services because of it. Are we not entitled to a humane and efficient health service, proper schools and preschools, affordable housing, decent public transport and roads worthy of the tax we pay to drive on them?

We put McDowell and the rest of them in government. The least he and they could do is ask us what we really want instead of all this posturing.
