Companies should have to pay for the waste caused by their products

WE are still not putting the costs of products back where they should be — with the industries that create them.

For far too long we, the public mugs, have had to pay indirectly for products. Manufacturers trumpet low prices, but after we have bought their products we pay billions in taxes and more in ill-health to try to get rid of the waste.

BP, to give them some small credit, have at least acknowledged the issue of drivers contributing to millions of tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
