WHILE discussing the recent budget, Social and Family Affairs Minister Seamus Brennan said every child in the country gets child benefit.

4,000 children who are not cherished equally

This is not the case. Some of the children most at risk of poverty in Ireland are denied child benefit, also known as children’s allowance.

Among these are the children of those waiting for decisions on their applications for residency in Ireland or those who are awaiting a decision on refugee status.
