WILL electioneering politicians address the ever-worsening childcare situation? Typical annual increases in créche fees are well above inflation and absorb any increment to child benefit.

Government ignores childcare costs crisis

Already paying almost €11,000 a year to my son’s créche, this month the fee increased by €900 per annum.

In the absence of public childcare structures, control over private pricing or a consumer association with teeth, most mothers see no Government support to sustain their choice to continue working.
