Hurler twice unlucky

I MUST point out a glaring inconsistency in Diarmuid O’Flynn’s analysis of this year’s hurling All-Star selection (Irish Examiner, November 28).

Hurler twice unlucky

Mr O’Flynn says Joe Deane was very unlucky not to make the team, and goes through Deane’s scoring rate in this year’s championship, game by game, to illustrate this point, stating: “In any analysis, surely that’s All-Star form.”

This assertion is fair enough, until you look at the team Mr O’Flynn picked himself — with Eoin Kelly, Martin Comerford and Tony Griffin in the full-forward line. So, obviously, by ‘any analysis’, Mr O’Flynn means any analysis except his own.
