IN her column (Irish Examiner, November 20), Terry Prone highlights the appointment of Dr Erik Keroack as head of a national family planning service to show how out of touch the Bush administration is with “the real priorities of ordinary Americans”.

The doctor, an unpaid medical director of A Woman’s Concern, has been criticised because that organisation operates a network of pregnancy centres that try to persuade clients not to have abortions.

The doctor’s Christian beliefs are considered inappropriate by opponents for a position in which he will oversee a budget for contraception, testing for sexually transmitted diseases and various preventative services.
