THE Taoiseach’s proposal to hold a referendum on the rights of children and young people under 18 is truly groundbreaking.

The announcement follows many years of intensive campaigning for greater protection and equality for young people by the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI).

As the national representative body for voluntary youth work organisations in Ireland, NYCI will work with the Government and opposition to frame provisions ensuring that the human rights of children and young people are properly enshrined in our constitution.
