Energy savings in transport sector most significant

THE Irish Examiner recently reported on a €7 million campaign to persuade people to ‘change their energy patterns of consumption’ (September 27).

The list of advice relates almost entirely to very trivial savings in the domestic sector — such as unplugging phone chargers — which put all together might save 10% of domestic energy consumption.

However, because the domestic sector represents less than a quarter of total energy consumption, the overall energy saving would be only 2.5%.
