Par for the course

HOW ironic that Ryder Cup tickets, once purchased, cannot be sold or even transferred. Indeed, it seems you may need your passport to get on the park-and-ride buses at the extravaganza. No cameras or ‘big’ bags either.

Surely the captains — indeed field marshals — of industry involved in bringing this spectacular to our shores would buckle at the notion that, once bought, a commodity cannot be traded or exploited for profit.

But then, should we be surprised? After all, one law for the captains and the kings and quite another for high-handicap punters has always been par for the course.
