Castle under siege
In a sense, it is a pilgrimage to my ancestral roots. My father was forced to emigrate from Castletownbere in 1939.
On his way to visit his aunt in Macroom, one of his last stops was at the castle. He has only returned once to the home country in all these years and is now too old to do so again.
I have to bring to his adopted home the sad news of the proposed destruction of the castle environs that we both love so dearly.
Why is it so necessary to spoil such a beautiful place? This is an important part of Ireland’s heritage and should be a great tourist attraction.
I oppose any destruction in the castle vicinity for the sake of a roundabout.
