Civil servants subjected to invalid comparisons

THE editorial of July 17 in the Irish Examiner was an abuse of free speech. It was a splenetic rant about civil servants. It is impossible to engage with such ramblings except to refer to two points.

First, civil servants are subject to exactly the same tax arrangements that apply to all other PAYE taxpayers, contrary to your outburst.

Second, civil servants are not paid 40% more than their private sector counterparts.
