THE article by Joe Gill of Goodbody Stockbrokers in relation to Cork Airport (Irish Examiner, July 17) is a timely reminder of the challenges facing the airport as it enters a new era in its 45-year history.

To be fair to the current management team and their immediate predecessors, Cork has enjoyed strong growth in recent years and now has a wide range of airlines operating scheduled services to 40 destinations.

While offering generous terms to a low-cost carrier may lead to spectacular growth in the short term, one would have to question whether offering such incentives is sustainable over a longer period.
