GIVEN the Taoiseach’s recent remarks in the Dáil on e-voting, it seems our politicians are still intent on introducing this non-verifiable system.

E-voting must first win the people’s trust

Mr Ahern questioned why, if you vote electronically, “you should also have to get a bit of paper out”. He found it hard to understand why we “still want to use pens and pencils”.

People do not want pens and pencils merely for the sake of it. The credibility of the system depends on the count being verifiable by ordinary people.
