Nursing homes that really care

YOUR feature on nursing homes, headlined ‘No end to an age-old problem’ (Irish Examiner, May 29), proves there is no end to the age-old problem in journalism — never let the facts get in the way of a good story, and particularly a bad story.

Leas Cross cannot be condoned, but it can serve as a catalyst for ever more diligence in the care of our elderly or, on the other hand, it can be used as a springboard for perpetuating the myth that all nursing homes are bad and people should just not go there.

No one wants to grow old. No one wants to live in a nursing home. No one wants to have arthritis, or cancer, or dementia or amnesia.
