NOW that the boating season is upon us again, the huge increase in speedboats and large, high powered, twin-engined cruisers on our inland waterways is becoming apparent.

Some intrepid sailors feel it necessary to have radar and satellite navigation to get their ‘trophy’ boats from Carrick-on-Shannon to Leitrim village, a couple of miles away.

These same people also find it necessary to go from A to B in the shortest possible time, making the wake behind them dangerous to rowers, other river-users and those along the shores.
