The silly season: time to wash your dirty laundry or your worms

WHEN he was very small, my son spent a summer washing worms. Put him in the back garden with a bucket of water and that was him sorted for the day.

It was cheap, it was out in the open, and other than irritating the odd worm who came in for more than one wash a day pretty harmless.

Worm-washing was the silly season at its best.
