An autopsy is to be conducted on Tuesday on the body of Tristan Sherry, the man who died during a shooting incident in Dublin on Christmas Eve.
The 26-year-old Finglas native is thought to have been stabbed a number of times during the incident at Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown at around 8pm on Christmas Eve.
Gardaí are pursuing the possibility that Sherry was tackled and stabbed as he was involved in the shooting of a man in his 40s who was in the restaurant with another younger man believed to be his son.
The man in his 40s is being treated in Connolly Hospital for serious injuries arising out of the shooting.
Gardaí are conducting enquiries in the Blanchardstown area on Tuesday as an autopsy examination is being carried out on Mr Sherry at the Dublin City Morgue.
The incident is believed to be linked to a feud between two rival gangs and garda patrols have been stepped up amid fears of reprisals arising from the incident on Christmas Eve.
The incident has been met with condemnation by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Justice Minister Helen McEntee. Ms McEntee said: “This viciousness has resulted in unimaginable human suffering this Christmas.”
Gardaí have also appealed to the public not to share videos from the scene in the aftermath of the violent incident, and to be aware of “a significant level of speculation, misinformation and disinformation”.
