A positive step - Waterford Greenway opens

It has been established along part of the old railway route between Waterford and Mallow and, in closing one of history’s neat circles, was opened on the 50th anniversary of the last date a passenger train used that once-busy line.

It runs from Waterford City to Dungarvan and is the result of years of campaigning and planning. Though very much in its infancy, it has already had a positive impact on businesses and communities along its route. If fact, it is not going too far to suggest that it might be a catalyst in a reawakening of an area that, like many more, has faced its share of economic challenges.

The Wild Atlantic Way has been a huge success and attracted growing numbers of visitors over an ever-lengthening tourism season, to Ireland. Hopefully, this new route will add to that momentum. It is certainly an option for anyone who appreciates the beautiful Irish countryside to put on their bucket list for summer 2017.
