Young professionals should make their Christmas trip home permanent

Confidence levels are on a high following a good year for Irish firms and we now need to encourage our talented young professionals to come home, according Ken Murphy of the CareerWise Recruitment agency.

Young professionals should make their Christmas trip home permanent

Many small to medium Irish businesses are well positioned to benefit from the improving global and domestic economy.

A key driver of the economy is the indigenous sector and it is reassuring to see increased activity across IT, engineering, agribusiness, electronics and scientific companies.

Owner managers are now having the confidence to invest in people to help drive their businesses forward.

“We need to encourage our talented young professionals to come back to take up these positions across all of Ireland. We have filled about 8% of our 2015 positions with returning emigrants, so keep on coming,” Mr Murphy says.

“We at CareerWise have also witnessed a marked improvement in the SME sector with an increased level of activity from many former clients who have been dormant for several years now.

We have seen a growth in business development manager, technical sales and product management roles, all of which are customer-facing and lead roles to grow a business.”

The pick-up in the Irish manufacturing and support type market in addition to the steady performance of the multinational sectors of medical device, pharmaceutical and ICT is providing opportunities for graduates.

However, the Government and bodies such as IDA Ireland have very positive aspirations to encourage the return of our critical talent, observes Mr Murphy.

While living abroad can be enriching, there’s always the loss of family and home. Prospects for emigrant graduates home for Christmas have never looked so good.

“Feel free to call our office to make an appointment to discuss your career opportunities and make the transition home as easy as possible — #hometowork,” he says.
