PODCAST: Small Business Show (23-29/05/14)

Kehlan, Olwen and Avine discus this weeks news including why Irish SMEs are in a better financial state than previously thought. Croom Enterprise Park talks to the show about rural start-ups and businesses. We also talk to the Irish company disrupting the €23bn global cards market and in the final part of the show Libera Terra from Sicily talk about how they are fighting the influence of the mafia by producing organic food and jobs.

Part 1: Kehlan is joined by Olwen Dawe and Avine Mcnally to talk about this week’s news which looks how Irish SMEs maybe in a better position with debt than previously thought. Bankruptcy in the news again and it also raising the issue of how we deal with bankruptcy and failure in Ireland. Plus the new website launched by the government to offer more information about local resources to help small business.

Part 2: Kehlan travels to Croom in the heart of Limerick County to look at the Croom Enterprise Park. Belinda Murphy talks about what it means for the area to have this kind of centre and why it’s people that drive innovation, not locations.

Part 3: Kealen Lennon from CleverBug, the developers of Clever Cards, talks about how they are disrupting a €23bn global cards market and how they have developed their business in order to set themselves up to be global titans of the cards industry.

Part 4: In the final part of this weeks show Francesco Gallante from Sicily talks about the Co-Operative Libera Terra. Libera Terra, or Free Earth in Italian, was created with the aim of enhancing Sicily’s social and economic standing by creating a food producing co-op which looked to take economic influence away from the Mafia and put it into the hands of organic farmers and producers. In addition, it plays an active role in the area, involving other producers who share the same principles and promoting organic farming land.
