Student fees slashed but sector says budget 'fell short'

IUA Council and UL President Prof Kerstin Mey said the budget announcement of €60m fell short of the Government’s promise.

Parents who pay for their student children’s rent will be able to avail of the renters’ tax credit, while student contribution fees will be abolished from September for those earning under a certain amount.

Among the measures announced in the budget is a reduction of €1,000 towards student contribution fees, bringing the cost down to €2,000 for the second year in a row.
