The EU has urged Liz Truss to fully respect the Brexit deal as it stressed the need for a constructive relationship between London and Brussels.

European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and vice president Maros Sefcovic both congratulated the incoming British prime minister after her victory in the Tory leadership race.
