Cloudy skies and dry weather will start off much of Wednesday before patchy light rain and drizzle comes in.

Heavier and more persistent rain will move into the far west, then through the evening, with fresh to strong winds and highs of 14C to 16C.

Persistent heavy rain will continue moving in from the northwest, bringing the chance of localised flooding, especially for Atlantic coastal counties.

However, some southeastern areas will stay dry until morning. Lows of 8C to 12C are needed, with milder weather for some southern and eastern areas.

Thursday will be a wet morning with fairly widespread rain, heavy in places with localised flooding, especially in Atlantic coastal counties.

The rain will be mostly confined to the southeastern and eastern areas by evening, with highs of 12C to 16C.

Rain, drizzle, and cloud in the southeast will clear early in the night, bringing dry and clear weather.

It will be a bit cooler with lows of 4C to 8C.

Traffic

There seems to be an easing of traffic congestion across main roads coming into the city.

Hundreds of thousands of public sector workers are set to take part in a nationwide 24-hour strike on Wednesday, with major disruption anticipated across schools, hospitals, government departments and public services.

There will be disruptions to Met Éireann's website on Wednesday due to industrial action.

Outlook

Friday will be a bright day with sunny spells and some showers in the morning and early afternoon, easing from the south and becoming mostly dry for the evening. Highs of 11C to 14C are set for the day.

However, it will be a chilly night on Friday, with lows of 1C to 5C, with dry and clear weather.

Saturday then will see mist and fog clear through the morning to bring a dry day with sunny spells for most. Highs of 11C to 13/14C are expected.

Sunday will see a similar start to the morning, with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. It will stay dry for most, with the odd stray shower and highs of up to 14C.
