Cork weather and traffic: Tailbacks on M8, motorists warned to expect delays

Cork motorists are seeing delays as of 7.30am on Thursday morning, with a long tailback accumulating on the M8 going into Cork City.

Motorists are being warned to expect delays, with the queue on the M8 southbound already stretching more than 1.5kilometres leading up to the Dunkettle Interchange. 

The M28 is seeing similar traffic as well, especially near Rochestown. 

In the city, the South Ring Road is seeing similar, while the quays are also seeing slow-moving traffic. 

Forecast

Weatherwise, dry weather and sunshine will dominate most of Thursday before it becomes cloudier, bringing rain and drizzle later in the afternoon. 

Afternoon highs will range from 9C to 13C, but it will become milder from the west towards evening.

It will stay mostly cloudy, breezy and mild on Thursday night, with some rain and drizzle turning more persistent and lows of 12C to 15C.

Friday will start dull and damp before the rain starts to gradually clear to bring brighter, fresher conditions with sunny spells and scattered showers. It will be breezy with afternoon highs of 11C to 14C. 

Clear spells and scattered showers will dominate Friday night, with lows of 6C to 10C. 

Outlook

Saturday will then be another rather breezy day with a mix of cloud, sunshine and scattered showers. They will become increasingly isolated from the south in the evening, with highs of 11C to 14C during the day. The rain will then start to clear later in the night to bring cloud and clear spells; however, temperatures will drop between 4C and 8C. 

Sunday will be mainly dry with bright or sunny spells to start, but it will turn cloudier from the southwest as the day goes on. A little patchy rain and drizzle is possible in Atlantic coastal fringes towards the evening, with highs of 11C to 15C/

Looking into next week, Monday will be a noticeably milder day compared to previous days. Met Éireann says while there is some uncertainty in the exact details, current indications suggest a good deal of rain, cloud, mist and/or bright/sunny spells with highs of 16C to 19C.
