Young father who tragically died in Limerick house fire to be laid to rest

A young father-of-two who died in a house fire in Limerick is to be laid to rest this week. 

Robert Duggan, aged in his 30s, of Smith O'Brien Avenue, Killeely, tragically passed away following a house fire last Thursday afternoon.

Mr Duggan was pronounced dead at the scene in Killeely.

It is understood the fire was a tragic accident and that foul play is not suspected.

His funeral will be arriving to St Munchin’s Church, Clancy Strand, on Tuesday for Requiem Mass at 1.30pm, followed by burial in Castlemungret Cemetery, Mungret.

Mr Duggan has been remembered as a young man who was "bursting with life and love".

His sister, Debbie, paid a heartfelt tribute on social media.

"I had the privilege of knowing you, loving you and calling you my brother for 39 years, 7 months and 2 days.

"A lifetime would never have been enough. Love you always, Rob," she wrote.

A friend of Mr Duggan said he was a "very special person".

"Goodbyes are never easy, but when you have to say good bye to someone who is just bursting with life and love such as Robert its just heart breaking.

"Much is being said around Limerick this week about how amazing and loved this man was. 

"To me he was someone who accepted me into his family in a very special way. 

"We shared many special moments, fun, laughs chats and a friendship that I will always cherish," he wrote.

A death notice on Rip.ie reads: "Robert will be sadly missed by his loving family, his parents Robert and Moira, his adored children, daughter Abbey, son Robbie, his loving sisters Linda, Debbie and Holly, brother-in-law Jonathan, Moira’s partner Charlie, Robert's partner Caroline, Linda’s partner Pat, Abbey’s partner Ben, his nieces Scarlett, Sadhbh, Isabelle and Katie, nephew Seán, relatives, neighbours, work colleagues and friends."
