Tributes to 'beautiful, kind' Liz Lynch who died in Limerick site

A mother of three who was killed when a trench which was being dug for a septic tank collapsed on her has been remembered as a great sportswoman who was popular and friendly.
Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Lynch, 44, was at a construction site for a house in Co Limerick on Friday when she was killed.
Gardaí attended the "fatal workplace incident at a premises in Kilmeedy, Co Limerick” and referred the case to the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) for further investigation.
Despite the efforts of others at the site to save her, Ms Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene.
The HSA said that it is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation.
The mother of three was a keen sportswoman.
She was an accomplished footballer and coached in both underage GAA and soccer in her local community.
Originally from Feenagh in Co Limerick she was living in the Newcastle West area before her death.
Feenagh AFC, a club she played with, released a statement on Sunday, saying that everyone there was “shocked and saddened” by the news of Ms Lynch’s tragic death.
“Liz was a popular and friendly member of our women's squad, having many close friends on the panel," it said.
“When Feenagh entered the newly-formed Limerick Desmond Ladies League in 2004 Liz was involved and she returned to the club a couple of seasons ago after a few years playing with Newcastle West Town.
“She was also involved in coaching underage sides in Newcastle and was set to don the number 1 jersey again for Feenagh this season until tragedy struck."
Another club that Ms Lynch was involved with, Feohanagh Castlemahon LGFC also issued a statement mourning her loss.
“Our club is devastated to hear of our former player, Liz Lynch's sudden passing,” it said.
Ms Lynch had played for the team that won the club’s first Intermediate County Final title in 2015, progressing onto a Munster quarter and semi final. The statement said:
“Liz was a cool and calm anchor in goals, a genuine, good, kind , friendly person with a great sense of humour. Our club is extremely proud of her contribution and lucky to have had her play over those years.
“Our thoughts & prayers are with all Liz's family. Her sister Mary and her sons Kauan, Jaycob & Victor, who were at every training and match, always by her side. To her dear friends and team mates in several clubs she played with and helped coach, we are with you all in grief."
Newcastle West Town FC, where Ms Lynch coached and played, also issued a statement on their shock and sadness at her death.
“Liz started coaching with us back in 2020, coached numerous age groups and was influential in developing our female age groups in particular.
"Up to last season, Liz coached the U16's and U19 girl's teams.
"Liz's beautiful, kind and vibrant personality always shone through where ever she was based in the Club, be it training, a match or volunteering.
"Liz's presence and dedication within the Club will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her."
Ms Lynch’s family suffered another sudden bereavement last year when her brother, Timothy Lynch Jnr, from Kilmurry, Feenagh, died on November 22, 2025.
Mr Lynch was working as a builder on his own future home when he died.
Ms Lynch was involved in coaching young girls in sport and was a member of Monagea Ladies Gaelic Football Club.
The club has suspended all activity this weekend as a mark of respect, as has Newcastle West Town FC.
A fundraiser in Kilmeedy has also been cancelled following Ms Lynch’s death.
A post from Kilmeedy Social Farm on Saturday said:
“Following the heartbreaking news from our parish this evening, we have made the very difficult decision to postpone Sarah’s fundraiser for St. Ita’s Community Hospital, which was due to take place this Sunday.
“This decision wasn’t taken lightly, but at a time like this, we feel it is only right to stand with our neighbours. Our thoughts, prayers and love are with all of the families affected, and we want to give them the space, love and privacy they need as they face the most difficult of circumstances," the post said.
