Man killed and two others injured after car hits tree in Co Limerick

Two people have died on Irish roads in the early hours of Sunday morning after separate crashes in Limerick and Meath.

Two people have died on Irish roads in the early hours of Sunday morning after separate crashes in Limerick and Meath. 

In Limerick, a man aged in his 20s died, and two more people were injured when their car struck a tree. The single-vehicle crash occurred on the N21 at Cummeen, Adare, at approximately 2.40am on Sunday.

Gardaí said the driver, a man aged in his 20s, was fatally injured. His body has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where an autopsy will take place in due course.

Two other passengers, a man aged in his 20s and an adult male teenager, were removed from the scene to University Hospital Limerick.

The passenger aged in his 20s remains in a critical condition. The second passenger received non-life-threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.

Road users who were travelling on the N21 at Cummeen, Adare, Limerick between 2.15am and 2.45am on Sunday and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.

Meanwhile, in Meath, a man aged in his 50s died after his car struck a premises at around 2am on Sunday. The man was the sole occupant of the car in the single-vehicle incident. 

His body has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, where an autopsy will take place in due course.

The road is currently closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
