Met Éireann has predicted a dry and bright morning, with heavier showers expected on Monday evening.

The national forecaster said Monday will start mostly dry, with rain developing across the country during the afternoon.

The rain will become heavier and more persistent for a time before clearing eastwards during the late evening.

Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C are expected, with fresh and gusty southwesterly winds.

Overnight, there will be a mix of clear spells and light, scattered showers feeding in from the west.

Lowest temperatures of 9C to 12C are predicted, with light to moderate southwest winds, becoming fresher near the coast.

Wednesday will bring blustery conditions with scattered showers and sunny spells, starting off bright and dry before cloud pushes in from the west.

Scattered showers and a fresh and gusty west to northwest wind are predicted in the afternoon, before showers become more isolated throughout the day.

Highest temperatures of 14C to 16C are expected.

Wednesday night will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain pushing into the west and south overnight.

Lowest temperatures of 10C to 14C are expected, with light to moderate southerly winds.

Traffic 

In Cork, a steady flow of traffic has started to develop across major city links, with some heavier pockets on the N40 near the Kinsale Road Roundabout.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has advised motorists travelling northbound on the M8 to be aware of scheduled closures on sections of the motorway network.

National weather outlook 

Thursday will see further outbreaks of rain, starting with wet and cloudy conditions.

More persistent spells of rain will start pushing in from the west in the afternoon and will spread across the country.

Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C are expected, with moderate southerly winds.

Friday is set to be drier and brighter from the outset, with a mix of sunny spells and light showers that will ease through the afternoon.

Friday evening is expected to become dry, with sunny spells.

Highest temperatures of 15C to 18C are predicted, with light northwesterly winds.
