Brazilian murder victim was still living with husband due to lack of accommodation options

Brazilian woman Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, who was murdered in Limerick last Friday, continued to live with her husband despite a separation, as they could not find accommodation elsewhere.

Gardaí launched a murder investigation into the death Ms Pereira Rosa, 33, after her body was found at an apartment in the Carlton House complex on Cecil St at approximately 7.30am on Friday.

Investigating gardaí were keen to speak to Brazilian national Judismar Wesley Batista, who was Ms Pereira Rose’s husband. Sources confirmed that a body found in Cork last Friday at approximately 7pm was Mr Batista.

Friends of Ms Pereira Rosa told the Irish Examiner she had been married to him for over a decade. She broke off their relationship a couple of months ago, but Mr Batista “was not accepting much” and hoped for “reconciliation”.

Jady’s brother Paulo confirmed she had to live with her husband at the apartment complex, despite wanting a separation.

“There are so many immigrants in Ireland that it was difficult for her to find the place where she lived... Imagine how difficult that must have been for her, especially being alone,” he said.

Ms Pereira Rosa’s family are desperate to start the repatriation process as soon as possible – a process which is understood could take quite some time due to the ongoing investigation.

“The provisional death certificate is still pending, as they haven’t released it yet. We still need to provide it to the funeral home in Ireland,” her brother added.

An autopsy performed by the State Pathologist has confirmed that the young woman suffered a “violent death”, but gardaí have yet to release the results due to “operational reasons”.

A fundraiser set up for Ms Pereira Rosa has raised over €25k, and her employer will cover the cost of transporting her body back to her native Brazil. Donations have been paused as the initial fundraising target was reached.

Ms Pereira Rosa was originally from Sorocaba, a city in the state of São Paulo, and was a law graduate.

She had been living in Limerick for a number of years and worked for a cleaning company in Co Limerick. Her employer said she will be “sadly missed by everybody”.

“I  don't know what to say, she was a great daughter. She’s a very good person, and she'll be sadly missed. Jady was a great girl, she didn’t deserve what happened to her,” Shane Ryan told the Irish Examiner.

On Monday evening, a vigil held by Rosa Limerick saw candles and notes being gently placed at Bedford Row, as a crowd gathered to pay tribute not only to Ms Pereira Rosa, but also to Tipperary woman Annmarie O’Reilly who was found dead in Australia.
