The body of a woman has been recovered from the River Blackwater near Mallow in north Co Cork.

Emergency services were alerted after the woman's body was discovered on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said gardaí and the Coast Guard attended the scene, and the deceased was brought ashore.

The body was then removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital.

The local coroner has been notified, and an autopsy will be carried out.

“The outcome of the post-mortem will determine the course of the garda investigation,” the spokesperson said.
