Three men arrested after River Shannon rescue in Limerick

Three men were arrested after entering the River Shannon while allegedly intoxicated.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 6.30pm.

Limerick Fire and Rescue Service rescued the three men after they got into difficulty while swimming in the river.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that gardaí are investigating a public order incident that occurred near Honan’s Quay.

“Three men, aged from their 20s to 40s, were arrested and conveyed to a Garda Station in Limerick city,” the spokesperson said.

It is understood the men were highly intoxicated when they were brought from the water.

A video circulating on social media, recorded by passers-by on Sarsfield Bridge, appears to show the men being brought to safety before being arrested by gardaí.
