A motorcyclist is being treated in hospital after hitting a car door in Cork city this evening.

At around 7.30pm, a car is understood to have stopped on Anglesea Street to let a passenger get out.

As the car door was being opened, the motorcyclist is understood to have hit the door and was knocked off their motorbike.

The motorcyclist was treated for his injuries by members of the Cork City Fire Service, whose headquarters are nearby.

They were then transferred to an ambulance and rushed to hospital. It is not known how serious their injuries are.

It is understood that nobody else sustained injuries in the incident.

An emergency services source has said the car involved is understood to have been a taxi.

The incident is understood to have taken place near where another serious road traffic collision occurred last November when a pedestrian collided with a van.

Previous to that, a cyclist was seriously injured when she was involved in a collision with a taxi in May 2022.
