Arrest made after man, 70s, dies in fatal assault in Waterford

Just after 6pm on Monday evening, gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene at a home in Cappagh in Dungarvan.

A man in his 70s has died after an assault in Waterford.

Just after 6pm on Monday evening, gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene at a home in Cappagh in Dungarvan.

The man was found with serious injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at a garda station.

The scene and home have been preserved for forensic examination.

A garda spokesperson said that a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Dungarvan Garda Station.

"Investigations are ongoing." the spokesperson confirmed.
