Man arrested after alleged assault attempt on Taoiseach at Ploughing Championships

A man in his 60s was arrested at the National Ploughing Championships after he allegedly attempted to assault Taoiseach Micheál Martin.

According to gardaí, an arrest was made shortly after 12pm on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

No injuries were reported.

The man was brought to a garda station in County Offaly and has since been charged and released to appear before the District Court at a later date.

Gardaí said investigations remain ongoing.
