Registrations are open for the JP McManus-sponsored Team Limerick Clean-Up, the largest event of its kind in Ireland.
Now in its 11th edition, TLC will take place on Good Friday, April 3, across Limerick city and county.
Last year, more than 23,500 volunteers took part in the event, which is sponsored by the JP McManus Benevolent Fund. A total of 547 groups participated across the county, including 89 schools.
Over the course of the day, volunteers collected 50 tonnes of litter, the equivalent of approximately 2,000 household wheelie bins of rubbish.
Launched in 2015, the county-wide initiative encourages people to volunteer for a one-day clean-up every Good Friday.
TLC 2026 was launched by co-founders Paul O’Connell and Helen O’Donnell, who announced a collaboration with Bus Éireann this year to encourage volunteers to ‘Get on Board’.
“We hope that volunteers, businesses, schools and clubs will get behind TLC again this year and register their groups online,” Mr O’Connell said.
Paul O'Connell and Helen O'Donnell were joined at the launch by John Kiely, Mayor John Moran, Dr Pat Daly, príomh chomhairleoir cllr Catherine Slattery, John and Joe O’Sullivan, and Dermot Koyce of Bus Éireann.
According to Limerick mayor John Moran, the event proves that “small actions can create habit changes”.
“This is the 11th year now that our families, our neighbours, our friends and our local businesses are proving that small actions can create habit changes all across our city and county,” he said.
Dr Pat Daly, director general of Limerick City and County Council, said: “It’s truly uplifting to see thousands of civic minded people come together each year with a shared purpose, creating a cleaner environment and strengthening community pride.”
