Aaron Hill misses out on World Snooker Championship spot

Cork’s Aaron Hill suffered more heartbreak as he was beaten by David Gilbert to once again miss out on a place at the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible.

Despite a battling display, the Leesider was beaten 10-6 by former semi-finalist David Gilbert in the final round of qualifying at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

The 24-year-old misses out on a place the World Championship for the second year running having previously being beaten by the Angry Farmer.

Hill struggled throughout the match, making just one break over 50, while Gilbert showed why he was once ranked inside the top 10 in the world, making a 141 in the third frame.

But credit to Hill, he would go on to take a 4-2 lead with his highest score of the match, 72 before the Angry Farmer hit back with a 126.

Hill continued to battle during a scrappy second session and managed to level the scores at 6-6.

But in the end it just wasn’t to be as Gilbert reeled off four frames in a row to clinch victory.
