An e-scooter driver who died following a collision in Waterford City on Christmas Day has been named locally as Alan Walsh.

The 40-year-old from St John’s Park was involved in a collision with a car at about 11am at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker's Hill) and Hennessy’s Road on Thursday.

Mr Walsh, a father of two, was taken to University Hospital Waterford, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 80s, was also brought to University Hospital Waterford with injuries which are believed to be non-life-threatening.

His death notice on RIP.ie said Mr Walsh "will be sadly missed". He is survived by his son Sean, daughter Ava, his "heartbroken" mum Esther, dad Tommy, brothers Thomas and Mark, and sisters Lorraine, Karen and Sarah.

Mr Walsh worked in O’Sullivan's Bar and Restaurant.

The road where the crash occurred was closed for several hours to allow forensic collision investigators to carry out a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

They particularly want to speak to any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were travelling on Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road between 10.45am and 11.15am on December 25.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
