A training flight made a precautionary landing in a field north of Waterford Airport after the pilot reported engine trouble during a routine exercise.

The Cessna 172 was returning to Waterford when the pilot experienced a “rough-running engine” and notified Air Traffic Control of the issue.

According to the operator, the pilot quickly identified a suitable landing site close to the airport.

He then “positioned the aircraft for landing and carried out a precautionary landing in a suitable grass field, in accordance with standard operation procedures.”

There were no injuries to either the student or the flight instructor on board.
