There is a risk of localised flooding in parts of the country over the coming days, as Met Éireann issues one status orange and three status yellow rain warnings affecting 12 counties.

The first warning, a status orange alert for Wicklow, was issued within the last hour and will remain in place until 11am on Saturday.

A status yellow warning for Cork and Kerry came into effect at 11pm on Thursday and will last until 9pm on Friday.

Two other yellow warnings are also in place:

  • One for Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, and Waterford, active from 6am Friday until 6am Saturday.
  • Another for Clare, Galway, and Mayo, active from 6am Friday and due to expire at 9pm Friday night.

According to Met Éireann, all four warnings will bring "spells of rain, heavy at times," and an increased risk of localised flooding.

Today is forecast to be a "wet and breezy day" with widespread rainfall, temperatures ranging from 8C to 12C, and moderate to fresh easterly winds — stronger along the west coast.

Tonight, rain will continue across the country, with overnight temperatures dipping to between 6C and 10C.

Saturday will begin dull and damp, with lingering rain from overnight easing into more patchy showers and clearing northwestwards by the afternoon.

Conditions will become drier in many areas, with highs of 8C to 13C in light to moderate easterly winds.

Saturday night is expected to be mostly dry apart from some light rain and drizzle in the west, which will gradually clear. Clearer spells will follow, with overnight lows of 6C to 9C and winds shifting from southeast to southwest.

The Easter Sunday forecast includes light morning rain clearing eastwards, followed by occasional sunny spells and isolated showers.

Afternoon cloud cover is expected to build from the west, with more rain forecast later. Temperatures will range from 11C to 15C in light to moderate southerly breezes.

Sunday night will bring further rain moving east, followed by clear spells and scattered showers. Overnight temperatures will fall to between 5C and 9C.
