Garda helicopter helps locate man who was arrested in connection with Cork City stabbing

A man has been arrested by gardaí investigating the stabbing of a woman in Cork City on Monday morning. 

The man, 40s, was found in a nearby garden with the assistance of the Garda helicopter which was tasked to help in the major manhunt following the incident on Evergreen St.

He is being questioned in a city Garda station while the woman is still being treated for her injuries at Cork University Hospital. They have been described as not life-threatening.

It is understood that the woman, who is in her 20s, raised the alarm following the stabbing, running out of the property with a young child.

She was tended to at the scene by paramedics before being transferred to Cork University Hospital for treatment. Detectives are waiting for medical clearance to interview her about the incident.

Garda personnel, including members of the armed response unit, and emergency services attended the scene which was cordoned off as gardaí carried out a technical examination.
