Jackson County juvenile authorities have charged a second teen Friday in the Wednesday night murder of Irish chef Shaun Brady.
He is charged with second degree murder and attempted stealing, according to a Jackson County Court spokesperson.
The juvenile is in detention.
Earlier, a juvenile was charged with the second degree murder of the Tipperary chef.
The male, who cannot be named, has also been charged with attempting to steal a car. The charges emerged in a detention hearing on Friday morning, after which the juvenile was returned to custody pending a review later this month.
Investigations into Mr Brady’s death have continued since he was shot dead on Wednesday. The 45-year-old was gunned down after he spotted a number of men by a car in a parking lot as he was putting out rubbish from the restaurant he owned.
There was what local detectives are calling an “interaction” that led to him being shot at around 5.18pm local time. Two juveniles were arrested a short while after the incident, which happened near East 63rd Street and Rockhill Road in Kansas City, Missouri.
The vehicle Mr Brady, from Tipperary, had seen the group of men by has since been recovered. Officers found Mr Brady after they responded to a report about the shooting.
Scott Lauck, of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court Jackson County, Missouri, told the in a statement: “In connection with the fatal shooting of Shaun Brady on August 28 in Kansas City, Missouri, the Office of the Juvenile Officer has charged one juvenile male with second-degree murder or, in the alternative, felony murder, which is a class A felony.
“The juvenile also is charged with attempted stealing of a motor vehicle, an E felony, and armed criminal action, which is an unclassified offence.”
He added: “Under Missouri law, a mandatory hearing is required to determine whether the juvenile will be certified to stand trial as an adult.“
He said that while in the juvenile system, the charged male’s name cannot be released. Following a detention hearing on Friday morning, he said the juvenile remains in “secure detention”.
The next review hearing was set for 9am on September 25. He was unable to comment about the fate of anybody else who has been either questioned or detained in relation to Mr Brady’s death as “the incident remains under review’.
Mr Brady, a father of two, was born and raised in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, and studied in Dublin before moving to the US. He was the owner of Brady's KC, an Irish-American restaurant in the Brookside region of the city, near the Missouri/Kansas border.
