Planned water outage to affect over 2,000 customers in Cork on Thursday

The works will take place from 10.30pm on Thursday, June 27, until 2.30am on Friday, June 28, as part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme.
More than 2,000 customers in Cork City will be affected by a planned water outage on Thursday evening and Friday morning to facilitate ongoing essential water mains works.
The works will take place from 10.30pm on Thursday, June 27, until 2.30am on Friday, June 28, as part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Cork City Council, is replacing over 1.1km of old cast iron watermains on Popham’s Road as they continue to address leakage and discolouration issues.
Up to 2,100 customers located in Parklands, Larchfield, Park Dale, Park Close, Parkwood Close, Geaneys Boreen, Ashwood Close, Rowanville, Oakville Drive and Onslow Gardens may be impacted.
Other places affected may include:
- Dierville
- Beechwood Grove
- Fairfield Avenue
- Russell Court
- Pophams Road
- Rathpeacon Road
- Kilnap Place
- St. Michaels Road
- St. Colmans Road
- St. Brendans Road
- Commons Road
- MountCara
- The Priory
- Seminary Court
- The Lawn
- Redemption Road
- Lovers Walk
- Seminary Place
- Blackpool Shopping Centre
These locations and the surrounding areas may experience low water pressure, temporary water discolouration or intermittent disruptions to water supply, according to Uisce Éireann.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said "every effort" will be made to reduce the impact of these works on homes and businesses.
"We would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation," he said.
Uisce Éireann advises its customers to take caution when running taps and using their water, as sediment may become dislodged from the old cast-iron pipes following these works.
"If your tap water is discoloured, running the tap for up to 20 minutes will usually restore water to a clear colour. Water is safe to drink once the water is running clear. Uisce Éireann continues to advise customers not to drink discoloured water," he said.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann can receive direct communications from the company for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
