Two people arrested in connection with the murder of Michael Foley in Macroom

Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Michael Foley in Co Cork.

The body of the 61-year-old, who was a native of Scartagh in Clonakilty, West Cork, was found in the kitchen of his sheltered accommodation at Annville, Barrett’s Place, Macroom, at around 1pm on Tuesday, February 6.

A care worker called to check on Mr Foley after neighbours expressed concern for his welfare having not seen the local man for a few days.

It is believed he had been dead for a few days before his body was found. He had lived in the sheltered accommodation for about a year.

It is understood that he died after he sustained blunt force trauma to the head from an assault.

Earlier today, a man and a woman, both in their 30s, were arrested in Cork city.

They are currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Cork.

Gardaí are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "Any person with information that can assist gardaí with this investigation is asked to contact Macroom Garda station on 026 20590, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."

Investigations are ongoing.
