Cork commuters are set to see some rail disruption over the bank holiday weekend as Irish Rail is set to carry out major works.

A revised timetable will be in place for those planning to travel from Cork City to Cobh/Midleton and Mallow.

From Friday onwards, Iarnród Éireann is due to carry out track and signalling works as part of a major capacity expansion at Kent Station.

The work will continue into Monday, February 5.

Those using the Cork to Cobh/Midleton rail services will see bus transfers in place, and customers are advised to check times before they travel.

Some Friday services have also been cancelled on the Cork to Midleton line, with full details available on the Irish Rail website or the app.

Furthermore, those travelling on the Cork to Mallow/Dublin line will see bus transfers between Kent Station and Mallow.

A revised schedule is also in place from Saturday until Monday, February 5.

It comes as Irish Rail chief Jim Meade told the Oireachtas Joint Committee for Transport last week that all projects in the Cork Area Commuter Railplan are underway.

The programme will involve developments as well as enhancements to the rail network from Mallow through Cork to Cobh and Midleton. This will include the delivery of new rail infrastructure, electrification as well as re-signalling across the Mallow, Cobh and Glouthaune to Midleton rail lines.

Meanwhile, in Dublin, all DART services between Dun Laoghaire and Greystones will be suspended due to coastal protection works, line works, and works being carried out for the new Woodbrook Station.

A spokesperson for Iarnród Éireann said Dublin Bus and GoAhead will accept rail tickets for affected services.

The DART services will only operate between Howth/Malahide and Dun Laoghaire.

Furthermore, services between Connolly Station and Rosslare Europort will involve bus transfers between Connolly and Greystones.
