Fundraiser launched to find Corkman who got into difficulty while swimming in Australia

Damien Lucey
A fundraiser has been set up to fund the search for a Ballincollig man who got into difficulty while swimming in Australia.
Originally from Rosewood, Ballincollig, Damien Lucey got into difficulty while swimming near Honeycombs Beach in Perth on January 8. Mr Lucey's call for help was heard by two passers-by, but despite various search and rescue efforts he has not been found.
Mr Lucey has established "an amazing life for himself in Perth," according to Candice Parkins, who set up the fundraiser on behalf of Mr Lucey's family.
The funds raised will help the Lucey family with the costs of return flights to and from Perth, cover the costs of accommodation while in Australia and facilitate a continued search of Honeycombs Beach and the surrounding area.
The funds will also help with any legal expenses accrued while organising Mr Lucey's legal affairs in Perth.
Ms Parkins said the "tragedy" has "obviously devastated the Lucey family and his close friends".
"My hope is that we can help them in returning to Perth to aid in the search for Damien, and to bring him home."
Mr Lucey's former football club, Ballincollig AFC, posted on social media asking for people to pray for their former player.
"Please pray for Damien to be returned home to his family and friends. Damien, his sisters Carol and Eleanor, all played soccer with Ballincollig AFC from underage to adulthood.
"Our prayers are with Damien, his mother Frankie, sisters Greta, Marie, Carol, Eleanor, and his Brother Paddy, that Damien may be found and returned home to his family.”
Candice thanked those who donated in advance whether their pledge was “big or small”.
“I thank you in advance for your donations. However big or small, it is much appreciated.
“If you are unable to donate, please share this fundraiser with your friends and family to help share Damien's story and help raise funds.”
