Man charged with assault after Tipperary house party death

A man has been charged with assault causing harm after another man was found dead following a house party in Tipperary.
Tomasz Rozpeda, 27, of no fixed abode, appeared before a special sitting of Nenagh District Court on Saturday charged in connection with the fatal assault of Maciej Nowak.
Detective Garda Kevin OâKeefe said that Mr Rozpeda was arrested on Friday and was brought to Tipperary Town Garda Station.
He was charged with assault causing harm to Maciej Nowak on a date between December 26 and December 27 at Ballycrana, Kilross, Co Tipperary, contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
Mr Rozpeda made no reply when charged and cautioned, Det Gda OâKeefe told Nenagh District Court.
The accused was accompanied by a Polish interpreter in court.
The State objected to bail and requested that he be remanded in custody to await DPP directions, Inspector Helen Costello said.
Judge Elizabeth MacGrath remanded Mr Rozpeda in custody to appear again, in person, before Nenagh District Court on January 3.
Legal aid was granted to solicitor for Mr Rozpeda, Vincent McCormack, who said that he he was not applying for bail currently but may make a bail application at a later date.
It is understood that an incident occurred following a house party at the rented residence on St Stephenâs Day.
GardaĂ arrived at the scene early on Wednesday morning where Mr Nowak was pronounced dead.
