Trial date to be set for man accused of murdering Waterford woman

A trial date for a man accused of murdering Waterford woman Gillian Curran is to be set next Thursday, June 11.
Marcus O’Neill, aged 35, has been charged with the murder of Ms Curran, 47, in Waterford city in January 2025.
Ms Justice Karen O’Connor adjourned the case until June 11 for mention when a new date for the trial is to be set at the Central Criminal Court, sitting in Waterford.
Conor O’Doherty, prosecuting, said the trial was likely to begin either on June 22 or June 29 and is expected to last two to three weeks.
The accused is only required to attend court via video link on June 11.
Mr O’Neill, of 15 O’Brien St, Waterford City, was charged with Ms Curran’s murder on January 25, 2025.
Ms Curran, who was from Tramore, Co Waterford, was found unresponsive in a house on O’Brien St by emergency services after 10am on January 25, 2025.
She was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.
