Man (40s) arrested after suspected arson attack at Islamic prayer hall

A  man has been arrested after a suspected arson attack on an Islamic prayer hall in Dublin on Monday afternoon.

Multiple Dublin Fire Brigade and An Garda Síochána units attended at the scene at the Al-Madinah on Talbot St in the city centre at around 3.30pm.

A cordon was set up on the busy north-inner city street by emergency services in the wake of the fire.

This evening, gardaí confirmed a man in 40s had been arrested and is now being held at a garda station on Dublin's northside under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

They appealed for any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident or who may have video footage (including dash-cam) who were in the area of Talbot Street between 3pm and 4pm to come forward.

The Luas Green Line was suspended for a period while the blaze was brought under control, while there were knock on effects for traffic and other public transport services.
