Roofing firms in dispute over roof panels for Celtic Interconnector station in Cork
Select is engaged as the roofing contractor in relation to the construction of the Siemens Energy Celtic Interconnector HVDC Converter Station at Ballyadam, Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.
Two roofing firms are in a High Court dispute over the supply of roof panels for the construction of an interconnector which will bring electricity from France to Ireland.
Select Roofing Ltd is suing Euro Quality Cladding Ltd for some €2.1m following a purported breach of contract and misrepresentation by the defendant in relation to the sale and supply of roof panels.
Select is engaged as the roofing contractor in relation to the construction of the Siemens Energy Celtic Interconnector HVDC Converter Station at Ballyadam, Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.
Select engaged the defendant to supply panels for the Irish side of the project which will see electricity transmitted from Brittany via a submarine cable which will make landfall at Claycastle, Youghal.
Select claims the panels it was supplied were not fit for purpose and/or defective.
Euro Quality Cladding denies the claims and intends to file a full defence.
The case has been entered into the fast track Commercial Court list.
Mr Justice Mark Sanfey noted there was a major issue in the case over roof panels allegedly not being fit for purpose. The court was informed that to date efforts between the parties to resolve the matter have not been successful.
EirGrid is in charge of the project in conjunction with its French counterpart, Réseau de Transport d'Electricté. The interconnector, a 700-megawatt high-voltage subsea power cable, will be the first interconnector between Ireland and continental Europe.
