For some, sport is romance; glory is the game. For others, it’s more prosaic; it’s the winning and nothing more that counts. Or as Vince Lombardi put it: if it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why keep score? 

The last score in Mayo’s rapturous win on Sunday is a test of whether you are a sporting romantic or realist. Instead of fisting the ball over the bar, should Tommy Conroy have passed it to Kobe McDonald to palm it into an empty net?
